Zwentendorf, Nuclear Power Plant: The Control Room May 29, 2012
This is the first of a series of posts with pictures I took at the Zwentendorf Nuclear Power Plant. If you don’t know anything about this site you may want to hop over to Wikipedia to learn more. In short: In the 1970s Austria’s government decided to build a nuclear power plant and right before it went online a referendum was held deciding weather or not to use nuclear power in Austria. 50.5% of the population voted against nuclear power, turning the plant into a spare parts source and a training facility for similar plants in other countries like Germany or India. Visiting the plant is an interesting experience, since it’s very much conserved in the state of 1978. Since no nuclear fuel ever entered the facility, one can even take a look at the inner and outer containment.
